Just registered with FTE and it's my first post. I have a 2003 F150 x-cab with 16000 miles and it vibrates heavily around 80 mph. I know that is above the speed limit, but my truck should be able to go that fast. Right? It even did it so bad one time that it vibrated the rear housing seal out of the transmission. I've had the wheels balanced twice, but that did not help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance.
Thanks for the quick responses. It actually doesn't pull either way and it is more of a shimmy. I can feel it in the steering wheel as well as through the floor board. thanks again.
Sometimes in a case like this you end up swapping wheels with a truck that doesn't shimmy and see what it feels like. Just because a tire balances ok doesn't neccessarily mean it wont shake.
Do you know someone with the same truck that you could swap wheels with?
actualy with it vibrating out the rear trans seal id say its the driveshaft vibration. amazing how vibrations will traval throughout the truck (ex. steeringwheel). if the mileage is what you say it is take it to ford and get it fixed under warenty thats what its for. if not check for dents in the shaft or missing weights. this could if not repaired cause even worse problems than a seal but premature bearing failure in the trans or rear end.
Thank you for all of the ideas. I will try them out and see what happens. I had actually thought about switching wheels but I don't really know anybody that has a truck like mine. I'll see what I can do. Do you think the dealership would fix it even though the truck is going 80 or more? Once again, thank you for your responses. I will be on here quite frequently.
