I'm quickly approaching 60,000 miles. Plug changing time for my 5.4 is coming soon and I'm getting nervous. I have read for years about people stripping the plug threads. What ideas you guys have to help me prevent this from happening. I will squirt some PB Blaster on it the night before. What do you guys think?
Just make sure the engine is cool, warmdye. That's the best policy.
I don't think the lube is going to help - but it won't hurt, I reckon.
If in doubt (and I guess this goes for any threaded object) just back it off a quarter turn, then turn it back down, then back it off a half turn and turn back down, then take it all the way out.
You should have no problem mine came out at 80k with no problem...Just take your time and after you pull the coil out blow out the hole with an air hose...And torque the new plugs with a little anti sieze on em...
