How does this come apart?

Soooo....

I haven't recieved the factory manual for my '55 yet (from our dear sponsor, BTW). I'm stripping my cab out in preparation for sending it to get blasted and I'm stuck on how the brake & clutch pedals come off. Are the pedals themselves threaded on to the arms? Is that a setscrew on back of the pedals? Or should I just disconnect everything from down below and pull the whole arms thru the cab?

I have rededicated myself and my spare $$$ to finally getting going on this project. I've drug this thing around for 10 years and 3 different states now it's time to *bleep* or get off the pot so to speak. Thanks for any help you can provide. Gallery pics coming soon.

I'm going with an auto, so if anyone needs an original clutch setup ,drop me a line. Or if you live in SW WA and want to turn some wrenches, I'd be more than happy to help you with your project in return as well. Sometimes two people help keep the other one motivated. Sometimes I need a little help staying "on task". Adult ADD maybe?

Ron, if you have all the original equipment for the clutch/brake setup, the pedals will come off the braket that is attached to the frame. On my 56, I disconnected the U shaped bracket(not sure of the technical name) that connects to the transmission and removed the pin from the shaft that is the clutch actuating mechanism. Then when you unbolt the brake bracket that is bolted to the frame, it will all come out.

Not sure how clear I was but hope it sheds some light.

I am just finishing a cab off resto after letting my 55 sit for 25 years. The round rubber pedals in the cab unscrew. The clutch arm is attached to a shaft with a splined key secured in place with a nut. The brake arm just slips onto the same arm. Suggest unbolting the entire assy from the frame and remove.

Take a look at this thread.

By the way, if anyone has found a source for replacement brake pedal bushings, let me know. Every supplier I've tried says they have been discontinued.

Fat fenders, Have you tried a NAPA shop and had them try to match the size of the bushing. It's been several years ago when I tore into my brake pedal and I think I just took the remains of the old bushing in and bought one that matched. Also a farm implement dealer might have something that would match.

Both Carpenter and Mid-50's have them. Got mine from Carp.

fking1,

Are you talking about shaft bushings? I found those. What I'm looking for is the bushing that goes in the brake pedal itself.

Kevin,

My 55 doesn't have a bushing in the brake pedal itself.
Sorry.
