Well, we bought our '04 heritage under the impresion that the 4.2 could handle our 5,000lbs trailer, this is after the salesmen told us countless time it would. Now after monthes of calls, emails and letters, not to mention trips to the dealer...the manager tells me we can work out something at there cost and kepp the rebates... this was yesterday........i was told that i would get a call back by 0900 (USMC) this morn. and now its 1330, nothing..so i called them..Guess what.....the guy has today off......what the ?? any one else been on the call you tommarow ride?? any help??
Yikes. I wouldnt do any large amount of towing of that size with a 4.2. You definately want to get yourself into something with more power. Keep on him. Tell him that the truck just doesnt cut the mustard. If he's worth his salt he'll accomodate you.
Today i went over the salemen head, and went to the sales manager, and then to the GM..... i will let y'alll know the out come, if i dont get a call by noon tommarow.....the BBB will be notified.....
Go for it! I've been burned by sales people before, myself. "Oh yes there is no problem with this truck and 'that weight'". Needless to say, I learned my lesson on that one (realistically, I'll probably repeat the mistake at some future time, though). Good luck!
In most Canadian provinces now the regulations on trailers requires that the GVW is determined by weighing the total package , just like the rigs .
This in effect makes it impossible for one to buy a vehicle that is large enough to tow a 5ooolb trailer with a motor as small as a 4.2 ltr .
Although RV trailers are not required to cross the scales like regular commercial vehicles , it is still quite simple to determine at the car lot which vehicles are big enough and legal to tow any given size trailer .
This also prevents people from attempting to tow a 35' RV with a Neon . You know the ones I mean , we used to see them every day in summer traffic .
The GM met with me today and said.......NO WAY was i getting out of this truck..... but he did give me 3 options....... he would pay to have my other truck (the one im towing) shiped to illinios, give me a 5 year power train warrenty.... or have the truck re geared.....from 3.08 to 3.55......i told him i needed the night to think it over....
help guyz.....running outof night..... im leaning toward the warrenty and justpressing luck with the 2100mile trip....
