My1996 f350 w/pstroke quit the other day while I was driving. I noticed as it was dying that it was pushing black smoke out, and it would run for 10-20 seconds then stall, then I would pull over & it would run for 30 or so seconds, then die again. I check the air filter, and replaced the fuel filter (which i is getting fuel to, and drained the water (there wasn't any). Now it won't start at all. Please send your advice, I'm bafled. Thanks Chuck
I'm pretty sure yours has the CPS as well, can't remember for that year. Any codes, lights or anything set? How are your batteries? These beasts need alot of juice to start and run. I'd do a search for CPS problems and then check it out. Cheapest places for a replacement is the IH dealer, not FORD.
I noticed the water light go on, & out, and the check engine light came on & off. Other than that nothing. I am waiting for my friend with the reader to come by. Hopefully it will give me some info.
CAS.1, hope you get a code, but the CPS is a real pain, sometimes you get a code, sometimes you get nothing. The first couple times I had problems, not one code. Alot of other folks say the same thing. Hope its something as simple as the CPS for you. Good luck.
Thanks I'll Check, if not what do you feel it might be. I put a scanner on it 5 different times, and didn't get any errors. Tried to start it today, there wasn't any sign of life. Any input is something. Thanks Charles
When you are trying to start it, does smoke come out of the tailpipe? If not this is a sign the cylinders are not getting any fuel injected. It will be light and you might have to let it crank for a few seconds.
Hi, checked my truck & it doesn't move the tach. Also, it doesn't smoke when cranking. If the sensor isn't working will it also stop the fuel? Thanks Charles
Yes, if the sensor isn't working it won't allow the injectors to fire. See the links in my signature for info on changing the sensor. You have to click on my user name and then "view public profile" to be able to click on them. One note, the International part # quoted in the info as ending in C98 now has changed to C99. If I remember correctly, your truck takes the other part anyway. Good luck!
CAS.1, there is a fuse that powers the PCM that is on the same circuit as the fuel heater element. I don't know the number. I have seen the fuel heater element burn out and blow that fuse. Have you checked your oil level?
