Most durable Ford Truck engine youve ever owned?

My 1999 4.6L is at 126,000, hasnt skipped a beat yet. What is the longest lasting engine yall ever had? The highest mileage engine I've ever seen is a 1998 F150 with a 5.4, 393,600, had to replace the head gaskets... 2cd is a 92 Chevy s10 242,000.

Man, that's a toughy!! I have run up 175 k on my 1997 V-10 Van, 166k on my 1985 460 van, 155k on my 1980 300 cid six cyl F-150. I replace the valve lifters, pushrods, rockers on the 460 and that was it all three. (Oh, yea, two water pumps on the six.)

FE352. From what Ive seen the FE series V8's are the most duarable and relaible gas V8's Ford has ever proudcued. Had nearly 300k on mine before I rebuilt it. I think the 7.3L is also up there on the most reliable eninge as well, but it has too many gadgets and comptuer stuff to be ultra-relaible. The 300I6 is defintly number 1 for relaiblity in all of engine history.

300 inline 6. My dad has one in his '84 F150 and has over 200k miles on it. Only thing major he's had done to it was a carb rebuild - and this was a favor to a neighbor (the neighbor's kid needed a school auto-shop project).

For me, the best and worst are the pushrod 4.0. The one in the Explorer never ran right, but the one in my Ranger is running as strong as ever. I'm still at a realtively low 121k miles, but I figure any gas engine that makes the 100k mark with no issues has done good.

Even though I eventually killed it (threw a rod), the 390 F250 I had back when I as 17 was the toughest truck/engine combo I ever had. We used it one summer when I worked on demo crew tearing down some old houses to make room for a strip mall. We loaded it with cast iron pipes and bathtubs, pulled a trailer full of busted up concrete, etc, and we did it day in and day out for 3 months, and it never even broke a sweat.

I had an '87 Ranger/2.3 liter for 16 years. I put 226,000 miles on that thing and never had any engine work. I changed the timing belt twice, the water pump once, and the alternator twice. I changed that oil out to synthetic at 1,000 miles and changed it religiously thereafter. I gave it away last fall to one on my high school shop students when I bought a new F150.

The venerable 240 inline six probably took me farther than any single engine. It wasnt in a truck though. So the answer is the 300 of course. I have a 7.3 IDI but the 300 was 10 times more reliable. Never put a dollar in the engine and it would crank every single morning even at 30 below.

I might have to go with my 97 4.6 on this one. I just change the oil and go, not even thinking about anything else, and it takes it like it's made to go like that with no maintenance. I've really abused it and got my money's worth out of it, and I still would jump in it for a cross-country trip, and be failry comfortable the whole way. Love my Ford!

1994 F150 4X4 351w.
The only thing I have done is change the oil pan and the TPS. I have used this truck for many things that woud need a 1ton. I beat the hell out of her and at 130,000 miles it still burns no oil, burns the 31 mudders and takes every chevy I have raced. As a side note the E40D is stock and going strong.
I've done things that woud make the general lee think twice with this truck. When will I grow up?

My uncle had an 88 f150 with a 302 had over 300K on it and very rarely changed oil ( maybe once a year) overheated and drove without a water pump for 10 miles, still ran strong when he traded it in.
