Yesterday, my friends 2000 F-150 , with the six cylinder engine, burned up after being parked for approximately two hours. She drove it approximately 15 miles, parked it at work, and two hours later it was "up in smoke". It looks like the fire began inside the hood, just in front of the steering column. It definitely looks electrical. The only problem she reports before this is her cruise control stopped working two days prior. Does anyone know of any recalls, service bulletins, or reports of this particular problem. thanks!
That's not good
Does she have insurance to cover it?
I dont remember seeing any recalls or TSBs or anything on these trucks burning up. And I think I'd remember that
The fact that the cruise stopped working may be a clue. On the brake master cylinder is a safety switch to shut the cruise off when the brakes are aplied. Those switches do go bad sometimes. I'm not sure but it may be possible for it to short and cause a fire.
Anyone else have any ideas?
Yes, she does have insurance, but she has a high deductable. She's a single mom and really can't afford all that's going to come out of this. The air bag light did not come on, the only clue was the cruise control not working. thanks
