Hello all, this is my first post on the forums, nice to meet you.
I was just recently given a 2000 Ford Ranger by my father because he bought a new F150. I had a saturn for a while before that (hey... it was cheap) but I never really cared to take care of it. Now that I have the truck I would like to take much btter care of it. My dad had a 1989 Ford Ranger XLT that lasted him the 11 years until the transmission fell out on the highway. I'm hoping that I can get the same, or more life out of my truck.
What I'm wondering is, what sort of preventative maintenance should I be doing. I change oil roughly every 2500 miles, and the belt generally once every 3 oil changes. Also I change the breaks when they need it and rotate the tires once a year. I know to check the fluids and hoses, but other than that I'm at a loss. Any advice anyone may have would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not sure what "belt" you are talking about. You're wasting good oil by changing at 2500 miles. One of the best contributors to long life is good driving habits, if you don't jerk the truck around or overrev it, just follow the maintenance schedule in your owners manual and you'll be fine. Welcome!
