I am looking to do some upgrades and was wanting some input from you guys.
I have a 99' F250, v10 auto 4.30 cogs and on 35's. Like everyone wanting more power and Gasmilage. I am planning on spending about $250 what is the most bang for my buck???
1. SS headers
2. K&N Fipk (or simular cold air kit)
3.TB spacer (does it work?)
Some here have bought them with OK results. Do a search. If you go that route then have a n exhaust shop re-do the stock Y pipe for best gains. If you have an EGR valve then you'll have to do some custom work to make it fit.
Headers, Ypipe, full flow muffler, and free flowing intake. $1500. If you let more air in with the stock exhaust set-up, can it be of any use. Plus the K&N and other types only make a difference at wide open throttle. The paper filter flow adequate for most applications. Headers will move the air through the engine quicker and more efficiently. The problem is the factory Y pipe has such a terrible restriction that what gains are going to be noticed. Alot of people slowly intime add a complete exhaust overhaul and a free flowing air filter. I have the Banks powerpack kit and I am happy with the gains in HP, TQ, and milage.
but I installed the Gabriel tuned exhaust - from the headers back. Cost a leeeettle more than $250 ($700) but made an incredible difference in torque. The truck doesn't downshift anywhere as much as it did before. Gabriel tech support claims they add about 25 hp and 40lbs/torque. The K+N filter didn't seem to make much difference. The Gabriel is much quieter than say a Flowmaster but still has a nice low rumble. Oh yeah, the truck is an 01 X-cab, Long bed, 5.4 , 3.73 gears.
California 2001 xlt, super cab, long box V10, 4.30's, 4X4, 35's, super lifts speedo calibrater, Cat Back exhaust,Air force 1 cold air induction system, superchips programer set to tow mode, banks headers 11 MPG.
just be nice to the gas pedal, it doesn't get any better
i have the same truck(well u know) n e how i found this site, this guy has done tons of work to his truck u can find some help there. the thing that helped me the most was the mods to the stock air intake saved me tons of money and it works great. well i can't tell you how the actual kit would work but if you are neat with the mods no one will care as long as you are satisfied. www.eurekaboy.com you will definatelly find lots of help here. by the way i got the headers from ebay, they will fit but for one problem, the SS headers do not come with the egr bung wich you defenetly want if u don't want to send your gas down the pipe(not kiddin) you got to have the egr welded into the headers. you will have to remove the egr tube from the exhaust manifold then go to the hardware store then find aregular pipe fitting preferably stainless steel then you'll have to drill and weld some. sounds like a lot(not really) specially if you are paying for the whole deal. which when it comes to headers i would say pay up just incase there are any leaks they will fix it till they get it right. have fun
For $250, I'd probably say do the intake. I have the SS headers you're talking about off of Ebay. They changed the low-end a little, but it was after I did the complete exhaust system.
The cold air intake made quite a bit of difference for the price. Then, when you have about $700, do the headers & the exhaust together, and you'll notice quite a bit more.
i got the tb spacer but i could not tell you if it works or not one guy here wrote that he only noticed the difference when towing or houling stuff. I am in the millitary and i am single and to far away from home to use my truck for any real work for now is just a cruiser(10mpg@$1.97 type of cruiser)
I took the fitting that was screwed into the exhaust manifold, and welded it to the header. Then, the fitting that was hooked to the EGR tube to EGR valve threaded right in. There was a total 3 fittings there.
