Hello,
I am looking to purchase a 1998-1999 V8 explorer from a used car dealer auction in the next 2 weeks or so. Are there any things in particular I should look for in these vehicles to decide which to purchase. I will be able to run a carfax on each before I decide which to bid on.
Any problem areas in these vehicles that I could identify with a simple test. I will be able to start the vehicle and could possibly drive it a bit in the parking lot, but that's about it.
If you're looking at a 4X4, I would make sure the 4 Wheel Hi and 4 Wheel Lo will engage. It would be best not to do this on asphalt, but I realize that may not be an option given the environment. Other than that, listen for any popping in the susension or brakes.
I think it does, but I'm not certain. I've alway had 4WD instead of the AWD, but my brother in law has a 96 AWD and I believe it has the 4 Wheel Lo option on the rotary switch.
