I have a 2000 Ranger XLT 4x4 ext cab and have used this site many times for various reasons but this is my first post.
Everytime I shift into Drive or Reverse I get a sharp metal-to-metal PING upon acceleration. It also occurs if I am in Drive and accelerate hard from a stop. Never pings from a hard acceleration while moving. Not sure if it is the transmission, transfer case or differential. Tranny fluid is good and changed regularly.Transfer case is good and has been looked at recently but no problems found. What gives?
could be your U joints take a look at them it's probably the cheapest thing try lubeing them and see if that helps just my opinion i'm not mechanic though
I have the same truck, 2000 ranger xlt ex-cab with the 4.0 and i had the same probelm....when i brought it to the dealer they said it was the u joints and fixed them...didn't hear that noise for while but i'm starting to hear it everyone once in a while again.
