I did a ghetto stereo install in my 89 F-150 this weekend and am having 2 weird issues. On CD playback, the tracks(MP3 or regular CD) either skip or the volume just simply cuts out and secondly, there is a weird high pitched humm or buzz that goes along with the RPM's of the motor when the deck is on.
Ghetto components($500 budget)
Pioneer 4600MP MP3/WMA deck
Sony 6.5" Door Speakers
Dual 10" Angled Sub Boto fit behind my seat) with 2 10" Subs(XS Cargo Brand)
1000W Peak 5 channel XS Cargo VR3 Amp(I know I know)
Hookup:
Stinger 600W power kit with fused amp power hookup, ground, speaker wire, 2 sets of RCA's to use the deck's pre-outs. Also had to wire a lead staight from the battery for the deck's constant power source as the one I have in dash is dead.
Any ideas why this might be happening? I should mention I am running both speakers and both subs off amp power, so is it possible that the amp power cable I am using is causing the amp to not have enough power and temporarily shut off causing the delay in sound? Is my deck bad? What about that humm?
For the hum...did you run the RCA cables along with the amp power cables? If so, try re-routing the RCA's so that they are nowhere near any major power wires. About the only non-ghetto component that you bought was the Pio deck. Since you are running all speakers with the amp, make sure the speaker wires that are sticking out the back of the deck are taped up or somehow kept from touching anything metal. My only other advice is to check all connections and grounds.
im kinda having that same problem, but my RCA's are on the opposite side of the truck as the power is, the only thing i have running is remote turn on w/ RCA's, but the RCAs have a wire with them, its from monster cable, and the wire's for the remote turn on, so i shouldnt' be getting noise, but also, i hear noise from my subs when the amp is on, its a low sound and i can only hear it with engine off (lol open exhaust) and i have to be in the back with the subs to hear it, but what's that from?
Dont waste money on a cap 99% it ont help the problem and could make it worse? As for running RCAs with remote I personally dont do it, I would try running it down the other side also look behind your radio to see if theres any where the rcas run close to power wires. I had the same problem and it turned out my rcas were right next to a +12 volt wire that was inducing the alternator whine, if you must run the rcas along a power wire try and get the crossing perpindicular.
Thanks for the suggestions. Honestly, yeah, my wires are kind of run haphazardly so I'm going to try to clean them up some. I'll run all of my wire seperate from eachother. RCA's seperate from Speaker seperate from Power seperate from Remote etc etc. Someone on another forum also recommended that I run the ground from the deck to the ground for the amp and then ground it from there. They said that in many cases that takes care of the hum.
Thanks again for the help! I'll report back after the weekend!
I've had "hum" in many of my car audio systems. Solution: drive to Radio Shack and get some in-line filters. Tell the clerk your story and he/she can point you in the right direction. Cheap and very solid fix.
