Starter engaging by itself
The starter on my '87 Ford f-250 4x2 keeps engaging by itself when braking or on bumpy roads. It seems that when the cab shifts it engages. Any thought on what it could be? I have replaced the starter twice. The most significant thing is the teeth on the starter are chewed up.

The positive cable from the battery is connected to the starter relay. Try this after you start it next time remove the small wire with the rubber boot from the starter relay, it just slips off. Then drive it & i bet it doesnt engage the starter any more, which will mean that that wire is crossed with 12 volts somewhere, & you will need to turn the key to run & start wiggling wires to find the problem. Since this happens when you hit the brakes, take look around the brake pedal arm for wires that might be rubbing on it.
