Transmission flush on '97 Expy EB

I got a '97 Expediton Eddie Baur and I haven't flushed or changed the trans fluid for 125K miles. I think I want to do it now and have heard of two types of flushing equipment. One type hooks up to the lines coming from the radiator, the other type hooks directly up to the pump. Does anyone know the advantages / disadvantages of each? I've heard the Pump Inlet equipment is better because it flushes the crud out instead of redistributing it and also requires a filter change to be done.

I'd also like to know what transmission I have and if the DIY transmission flush method provided here in this forum would work for me.

Oh, and one more thing, does anyone know if I can drain my torque converter?

Thanks in advance,
Jack - York, PA

There is only one way to flush the transmission with a machine. There are different places that it can be connected, but they all work the same way.

The flush method on this site will work for your truck. I've used it several times and it works great.

There is a drain plug on your torque converter, but if you are flushing it, why do you want to drain it, too?

Flushing '97b Expy Transmission

Thanks for the reply. The only reason I asked about draining the TC is because I'm not sure what method I'll use to attack this issue.

Do you know of any benefits from hooling up the transmission flush machine to one connection vs another?

Thanks again,
Jack

It doesn't make any difference, it's just the different ways that different manufacturers made their machines.
