Time to put a new engine in the truck. I plan on getting some 2 1/6th" gauges and am looking for a good place to mount them. I found a gauge pod that holds 2 gauges on the A-pillar (ford racing has them). Does anyone know of a 3 gauge pod unit for the 92-96 trucks?
I want to get an oil pressure, water temperature, and an air/fuel ratio gauge.
I don't know how much use it will be, especially if you use a stock O2 sensor. The range on that is not very wide, so if the air/fuel ratio goes out of that range, you won't know what the reading is. You could do the same thing with a volt meter. Under normal circumstances, the air fuel ratio will bounce from just above stoich. to just below, and cycle. It won't tell you much, but I suppose it may alert you of a lean condition, I don't know. If the O2 sensor is out of range enough, the computer will set a code and you will know about it anyway (as well as what the plugs look like).
My buddy has the autometer A/F gauge and other than it looks totally different than the other gauges it works well. I think it is pretty cool. I am going to get one and mount it in the passenger side kick panel if I can make it fit. The light sweeping around is kind of a bother when it is right in your face.
I wish I had an A/F gauge on my stock truck all this time that it's been running bad. I thought it was running rich but my cat's honeycomb tells me it's been running very lean.
Well, I do agree that normally I wouldn't go by it...but the thing was running crummy for 6 months and the honeycome had absolutely no black in it, all white/gray...never took the o2 out....its the original one and probably would be pretty difficult to get out and never bothered. I wish I knew what was wrong with the truck before I go and rip the engine out but there is no way of knowing now that I have internal engine damage and can't really run it in a way that would allow me to diagnose the original problem.
