Don't really know a whole lot about gear ratio, or the difference between a lower gear and a higher gear ratio, but I have a 89 f250 2wd, with a c6, 351w, This truck will pull a house off it's foundation, but it's a little slow , every thing is stock **** poor gas milage 10mpg, mainly use truck for towing small boat, and general driving, would like to know what the best alround gear ratio for rear end would be also pushing near 3000 rpm at 60 mph is this normal? and where would i find new gears( how hard are they to replace?) is there anything else besides gears that I can do possibly swap c6 to a AOD, if so What juck yard vehical would i PULL THE AOD from?
You can use a ratio calculator to find out what you have, or check the tag in the door frame, or the tag on the diff. Sounds like you probably have 4.10's, which is nice if you have large tires, or tow alot. If you are running stock tires and only tow a small boat, you would probably be better with something in the 3.0 - 3.50 range. I have 3.0's, and it struggles a bit with a large boat. My small boat I can't even tell is there. I pull about 1900 rpm at 60mph.
You will hear that the C6 is a much stronger tranny than the AOD. You can buy a built AOD, but they are spendy. I don't know what vehicles you can use as a donor.
