I was just wondering what you guys think about using the engine via reducing gear to hold back the truck while decending from the mountains. I have noticed that when comming down the egt's will drop to nearly 100 degF pre turbo. There is some talk about fuel getting past piston rings and into the oil at low idle temps. I was just wondering if this would have the same effect or if the higher rpm would push out the un-burnt fuel? Will diesel fuel burn completly at these low temps or is the computer cutting off all or most fuel in this condition?

You're worried about nothing, about the only fuel getting into your motor during the decelleration down the grade is just a miniscule at most. That is why your Pyro temp is getting so low, no combustion is happening because no fuel is being injected. Look at us big rig drivers, we use "jake brakes," which is a devise to basically use the engine as an auxilliary brake downhill.
thats what you are supposed to do, downshift and use as much engine braking as you can to control speed. that way you dont heat up you brakes to the point of failure. you can always tell a flatlander in the moutains because they ride their brakes going down hills
try doing a search on the forum for a thing called the Exhaust back pressure valve mod. I basically takes your EBV and turns it into an exhaust brake I have heard that it works very well. My cousin had on on his truck and he loved it.
