With an aftermarket intake you could run a GM (rochester) Quadrajet, these are very fuel efficient carbs. The primaries are only about an inch in diameter, but the secondaries are about two inches, so if you keep your foor out of it it shuold be good.

Just saw an article today posted by Mopar Muscle (comp cams website), where they doubles the power of a 318, mostly stock parts, no alumnum involved. They even reused the stock rotating assembly-minus pistons. 9.8 comp, comp XE cam kit, headers and 2bbl! Had more power than Im looking for. Then they went 340 heads.....no torque, all top end......the modified 318 was pretty good though.

Oh no, did I just type that? Oh well, a little variety never hurt. Right?

'86 and newer 360s came with the quadrajet, that was went they went way downhill, the Thermoquad was the same setup but the secondaries were there instantly not like the Q-jet where they come on slowly. I will admit that the themoquad had its problems but it was far superior for street/highway use.
