Performance Questions

I just got my new 04 F350 6.0. I want to know should I wait some period before putting in the Predator? Can I put it in and run it safely without the exhaust change? I am in California. Is there a benefits to putting in at test pipe where the Catalyst is? What is the preffered performance intake or filter? Thanks for getting a new guy pointed in the right direction.

I would recommend an exaust gas pyrometer. if you are running any kind of mod especially the diablo predator. The diablo will get to 1300 degrees in a matter of seconds. It also tends to make my truck blow anti freeze. I suspect that diablo advances the timeing to get the power.

As many have noted before some stock trucks blow the antifreeze out of the coolant overflow due to poor pressure caps or overfilling of the degas bottle...

Some have also surmised - me being one - that it is the EGR system that is causing that... my egr plug came undone and thus far no overflow even with the predator and this north texas heat...

which brings me to another question about the egr. Mine is undone--running 65hp predator--and I blow antifreeze on HARD runs. I had heard that the latest strategy was to have the EGR normally open. I wonder if the key being off is the correct way to disconnect with the latest flash? I'm NOT getting rid of my Predator grin in any form or fashion except for warranty work.

Mine wasn't overfilled--in fact had to add 1.5 gallons back to get it back to min mark--I think mine is the result of a weak cap tho--IMHO

I personally would do some 'moderate' breakin time.. At the 'very least', not till after your first oil change or more.. Think my tuner went on at about 5K.. Personal preference here And I ran mine in 'stock' configuration with no EGT gauge 'or' pipe ect. and had no problems.. But I run empty 'most' of the time, and only light hauling to this point.. But I did eventually go with the ISSPRO EGT gauge (my gallery) and have not seen 'any' damaging exhaust temps with the truck still in stock profile other that the 65hp Predator tune.. Safe.... should be, as long as you don't tow heavy.. But a gauge is cheap insurance to protect the truck and you.. Long story short... Mine was just fine until I was able to do an EGT install (ongoing warranty issues) If your planning on high altitude/steep grades/high outside temps loaded down, then a gauge should be used for sure for the advanced notice.. And is recommended by the manufacturer.. Opinions will vary as to intakes.. I'd do all the reading you can, here and while shopping, and make an 'informed' decision.. Some lean towards aftermaket for the 'cleanable' filters, and or others to help lower EGT/performance, or both! If you remove the cat., it could be a warranty problem/issue if something happens.. Plus if your looking at removing it to lower EGT it doesn't seem to benifit much, not to mention the legal issues and noise..

My opinion..
