4.0 litre engine pinging
Does anyone have any ideas on why my 93 4.0ltr aerostar has started pinging under acceleration. I changed the temp sensor before a long trip and it seem to fix except under heavy acceleration.now it has started pinging again under normal driving. thanks for any help.

Had the same problem in my 93 4.0. Ford could not resolve it. Disconnected the battery and rebooted the computer, no luck. Replaced plugs & sensors no luck. Than replaced all the plug wires with new motor craft wires, disconnected the battery & drove the van as normal on free way and no pinging. It was the plug wires.

Yep, Avanti nailed it. I would bet plug wires too. Common malady. Buy good ones or you'll be replacing them again in a year. Bosch also has a premium wire. Long arms are a definite advantage.
