I am thinking of installing Air Lift air springs to help level/ stabilize my 03 F250 while towing.
Does the install require the truck to be lifted (tires off ground)? Any welding?
Does it lift the rear end up when not aired up (not towing)?
When installing the air bags, the axle has to be off the ground because you have to have the wheel off to properly fit the bracket and to drill the frame. No kit I know of requires welding. It does lift the rear end up some because you should always keep some air in them. I keep mine about 30 pounds and when I have a load I inflate to 50 pounds. I would buy the Firestone kit(s).
Don't know anything about the "Air Lift" brand of air springs as i have not used them. However i have the Firestone air bags on my 2004 PSD and they are no drill and no weld. Very easy install (Less than an Hour), use factory holes in the frame and you don't have to remove the tires or jack up the truck to install them. Minimum air pressure in the air bags is 5psi per Firestone specs. The increased height, if any, at this pressure is imperseptable. Fully inflated i can raise the rear of the truck about 2.5-3 inches.
The part number is 2330.
On a side note, this model was designed to be used in conjuction with a "BW Turnover ball" gooseneck hitch if you so desire. Both use factory holes and no modification of any part is required.
Hope this helps
Thanks a bunch for your replys. I was concerned about making my truck look like a dragster with the front end pointing down. I was looking at the Air Lift mostly because I was told by my local dealer that they were the same bags in both and Air Lift was about $100 cheeper. I think Firestone comes with a 2 year warr. though.
Don't know if I got jipped or not....but I bought my air bags at Camping World and had to pay about $50 bucks extra for special bracketry because of my 5th wheel hitch. If I remember correctly, my brackets came without holes on one side of the bags....I then had to mark and drill the brackets to match the bolt locations where the hitch was fastened to the frame. Took a few hours, and I had to take off my wheels while I worked. I don't think my ride height is any higher though...I run with about 10 lbs when unloaded.
