3.0L starts then dies
When I start my 98 Ranger 3.0 w/auto it runs then dies. I tried it for about 20 minutes and it did exactly the same thing.

Tell us more. If this is all you are going to give us to go by over the INTERNET, take it to a good local shop.
(Why this isn't explained in a sticky, who knows....)

truck will start then dies
The truck will start and run for about 2 seconds then it dies. It acts the same way everytime I try to start it.

Will continue to run if you hold your foot on the accelerator??? If it does, then I would say the IAC valve is bad. It's a cylindrical shaped object with a 2 wire electrical connector on it, mounted on the throttle body....

Look in the under hood fuse box.the diagram on the lid will show you the location of the fuel pump relay, try tapping on it a few times with something then try to start it.

When you first turn the key on do you hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds?

No. I'm starting to think it's the fuel pump. The truck has 130,000 miles on it.

Most likely it is the relay. Try replacing it before tackling the fuel pump.

If I were looking at it, I would (in order):
1) Check fuel pressure at the rail, KOEO
2) Check fuel pressure at the rail KOER, right after it starts
3) Check fuel pressure at the rail right when it dies.
4) If fuel pressure when it dies is around 35-40 PSI, I would next, and promptly, check for spark.
I assume that right now the truck is not driveable.

The inertia switch is in the correct position. I don't have a fuel pressure gage.
