Hello everyone! I've been thouroughly enjoying pouring through the forums getting all kinda of valuable information! However, one of the things I couldn't find was a post regarding turning your truck into a roadster. What I want to do is completely chop off the top, probably chop the windshield down, and if possible try to make a completly removable canvas-like top for when it rains ( like what's on a Jeep). I've been trying to think up a light structure to support the top, while being collapsable so i could store it all in the truck. Any help would be really appreciated!
I haven't decided yet, but i'm looking at something in the 60's early 70's so I can avoid smog here in California. I couldn't bring myself to cut up a 50's truck - lol
Check out the Classifieds here for trucks for sale. Also check out the user galleries. If I remember right some guys have made soft tops for Bronco's and there was one guy that was talking about cutting down a truck cab but I don't remember if it was in 67-72 or 73-9 forum.
I'm thinking that having a roll bar across the back would work to hold up the soft top, I'm just wondering how to make it completely waterproof....maybe I'll just chop the top down instead of cutting it off. With that said, how hard would it be to install an A/C in a 73/74 F-150, or did they have it already? Sorry, I'm kina a newb. lol

I've owned a few soft tops, '60 Triumphs and early Ford handvertables, and I can tell you there are no "completely waterproof" out there. With a well constructed top, you can slow the water down enough to be comfortable. A good upholstery shop should be able to sew one up for you. Main problem with cutting the top off is turning and filling the edges so it doesn't look like a hack job. Good luck.
