Transmission swaps???
Hi all,
I have a 93 explorer 4wd. My tranny just started acting up by not going into reverse or overdrive. Is there an easy fix for this? If not, I was considering swapping out the A4LD for a better tranny. Can someone give me an idea of what tranny would work best. I want to keep the 4.0 V6. Also there's a site that I ran into with the Raptor "700R4" transmission. Are these reputable?

Hello! I also have '93 Explorer with 130+ original miles. My A4LD tranny still runs great though it require some minor repairs (mode selector seal is leaking, I should drop the pan and the valvebody to reach it).
Yes, it's a slow-thinking tranny and it has no electronic brains. But this is pretty reliable thing, I am sure. And pretty nice working, too.
So if you want to minimize your loss, try to rebuild yours or swap it with remanufactured A4LD. This should be much cheaper than adopting other tranny to your truck. Also you must be aware that you probabaly will need to replace the torque converter in any case.

Thx for the advice Yuri, I was wondering if I could get away with a swap from a newer explorer without adding ecu's and without too much customizations. If not, then would anyone know a good reliable reman company. I don't want to go to Joe Smoe who's idea of a reman is clean the housing.
