I have a 2000 excursion with a 7.3 . My micro tuner is the only mod. Under heavy accerlation the truck is fine until i hit 17 pounds of boost and then its sounds like the rest is getting blown off. I started haveing this problem about 3 weeks after I installed the tuner. When I install the stock tune this problem goes away. Was wondering what ya'll think?
I thought it was to do with the wast gate because it sounds like a big hiss sound. One of my friends at the ford dealer was going to waranty a whole turbo.

you may be losing boost through one of the intercooler tube (the silver tubes on either side of the engine) boots. there are 4 of them(8 clamps) it is somewhat common for one or more of them to get loose and vent pressure out of them. make sure they all all tight. if you see any oily residue near any of them that is a dead give away it is leaking, just tighten them down real good and that should fix it(if that is the problem)
No, it's a common problem with modified PSD engines. The stock turbo cannot keep up with the demand and all the pressure rushes back out of the intake housing. It least that's what I have been able to gather from reading here on the forum. If you leave it on a stock tune or at most a mild tune and you're ok.
May just be the factory wastegate doing what it is designed to do. Try removing the red boost tube going to the wastegate and stuff it on the one of the clamp bolts nearby. With the clamp mod and a bypassed wastegate I CAN go all the way up to about 28 psi, but seldom do.
Since you're venting boost at a relatively low boost level, 17, I'd suspect you've got a leak at a fitting. The wastegate shouldn't be blowing off boost until you're considerably higher.
