my '01 4.2 f150 has a diff. plug no. on the left side vs the right side. i believe it was AGSF-34B and -34G, it was just the last letter that was diff. also had diff. color paint on top of plug. i believe my wive's '97 marquis had the same issue (4.6). anyway all the local places say the original no. is not available. anyone know the correct motorcraft plug no. for the '01 4.2? thanks...paul
With Ford's EDIS, a plug in each bank fire in series together. Because each plug receives the opposite polarity spark, the GND electrode will erode on the plug in one bank, while the center electrode will erode on the plug in the other bank. Due to this, the GND electrode is platinum on the plugs in one bank, and the center electrode is platinum on the plugs in the other bank.
Replacement plugs are either double platinum (both electrodes are platinum), or the new "fine wire" platinums, and they can be used in either bank. In addition to opposite polarities, the plugs also fire on every revolution of the crank, twice as often as with a conventional ignition system....
