tunnel cover on 1986 doesn't line up with tranny

Hey all, I have a 1989 f150 body that originally had a 5 speed manual and I put it on a 1983 f250 frame with a t-18 tranny. Both are 4wd. The t-18 sits too far forward for the shifter to fit onto the top. Question, is the tunnel cover a different part between the 5 and 4 speeds?...or is the bell housing length different? Would like to know before I tear everything apart...and, uh, before Mr. T tears me apart...lol

You should be able to remove the 4-speed tranny tunnel cover from the old cab and install it in your new cab. Some are bolted down and are removable, some aren`t. I think the 5-speed cover is a little taller than the 4-speed also. I can`t remember on the face of bellhousing to centerline of shifter dimensions. If your covers aren`t removable, which I`m almost sure they are since they were both standards, you can cut it out with a jigsaw and mount a cover for a 4-speed. Hope this keeps Mr. T off your back.
