Oil change

Hey there guys.1 quick ?.I was talking to a friend of mine and he said that after changing oil in a diesel you need to disconnect the ignition and let the motor crank until oil pressure. Then it is okay to start her up.I change oil myself and never done that or heard anything about that.Is this true? Just thought to ask the pros.Thanx and great Labor Day.

I agree, keep in mind a diesel does not have an ignition system. Your friend might be talking about a "dry start", which happens after changing the oil. In this case, filling the oil filter with oil, before installing it, will minimize a "dry start" condition.

You have about a quart of oil that stays in the high pressure system reservoir that will allow the engine to run as the oil system begins to circulate oil. If there is not sufficient oil pressure built up, the engine will quit.

I have done all my own oil changes and haven't filled the oil filter yet. I wouldn't bother.

The filter location on the 6.0 makes oil changes a snap. As SBV45 mentioned, there is no need to pre-fill the filter. Just replace with the new element and gasket, torque to specs and you're done.
