Hi. I have a bit of a dilemma. School is coming up, short on cash, and my exhaust from the muffler back is garbage(single exhaust). So what I am going to do tomorrow is just remove exhaust from the muffler back, install a 2" cherrybomb(about 23" long) and then dump it. My question to you is how do you think this will sound? I have an '80 351M, stock. Thanks.
351M will sound good with glasspacks but don't go with 23". The longer the glass pack the more sound you kill. get like a 12" OR SOMETHING IN THAT AREA.
the 2' cherry bomb is gonna be pretty quiet, I have the 2.5" ones, actually a 29.5" version of the 2.25" ones with 2.5" sleeves on them, and they are pretty nice on our 460, they are pretty quiet till we get up around 4000 rpm. Go with a 2.25" Flowtech redhot for your application, it will be a bit louder and deeper then the 2". Oh yeah and make sure that is you go with the flowtech or another louvered one put the muffler on so the louvers are gonna catch the exaust.
Thanks guys, I didn't check back to the site until it was too late! I ended up getting that glasspack installed and dumped...sounds just like you said it would, 351M. It has a nice sounding idle...not too loud...and not very loud until higher RPM's. Oh well, it'll do until next year when I do my entire exhaust. It is a significant improvement over stock though!
Oh well, better luck next time eh? And I have been told by one shop that the longer the glasspack the more of a snap you get once they burn out, never really noticed this but oh well.
