I am thinking of replacing my 4.0L OHV ('92 Ranger ext cab 4x4, A4OD auto) with a 4.0L SOHC & 5R55E auto. I have heard of some complications with the fuel system and the ECM. Something about the PATS, gages and cruise control operation.
What experiences has anyone had with this swap? Any info would be much appreciated. This is my main ride so I can't afford to get into this and find out the problems on the fly.
Unless you wake up on a certain day and feel good about repinning a lot of wires and connectors and finish in time before work the next day, don't bother.
Ask Doug 904....It wasn't a one weekend swap and I doubt changing out the ignition cylinder to one that goes with PATS and possibly using a different dash altogether is something you'd care for. I think his truck was OBD2 already, so that helped him.
For what I hear, the tradeoff of the better high end of the 4.OHC over the 4.OHV isn't all that.
If I have the info of what to re-pin, it won't bother me. As long as I know what needs changed. I already have a 3000 mile SOHC in the garage, so this is why I am leaning that way.
I did a search for Doug 904 and similar, nobody here by that name that I could find. Where would I find him?
Are you saying that there is no way around the PATS issue other than taking the dash and ign?
