Kinda dumb sensor question.
I haven't really looked and my father mentioned about idling problems w/ his 88 F-150 w/ 5.0 and I had a though...I'm pretty ignorant to technology but I wondered if his truck had a DPFE sensor on it...if so it's never been changed and thought it might be a source since everything is pretty much in good shape...do they have a DPFE on the 87-96 trucks? If so are all years compatable?

No DPFE on an '88. It uses an EGR vacuum control solonoid to operate a vacuum controlled EGR valve. EGR operation is controlled by the engine computer. The EGR valve could stick open, and would cause a rough idle. I'd check the idle air control solonoid first, they can get gunked up and cause problems. Clean that and the throttle body, and see if that helps things.
