The V10 is an very good power package with great amounts of torque down low in the rpm band. Relative to the old 460CI V8 they are more economical to run but still like to eat fuel.
Driven at reasonable speeds the motor will get as high as 14-16 mpg but most owners running around 70-75 mpoh average 11-13 mpg depending on tires and gears.
When you hook up a decent weight load the MPG can drop as low as 6-7mpg with most owners reporting an average of 7-9 mpg on long trips.
just completed a 2000+ mile trip from socal to Laramie WY and back with my 04' crewcab shorty and averaged 15.25 mpg, with stock wheels and tires, 4.30 cogs, and runnin an average of 75 mph, and only 2300 miles on odometer
I'm happy!
Just got back from Timmins Ontario and got just shy of 15 mpg 1900 mile trip. 15000 miles on 04 crew fully loaded with coolers and supplies for 3 hunters. The two dodges and one chevy following had a hard time keeping up on the inclines and they all have done mods all of them 8's and I got the best mileage.

Just fixed the engine miss, replaced the air filter (oem) and cleaned the MAF sensor. Checked gas mileage yesterday on first tank since doing the maintenance- 17.21mpg. That's darn good on these PA hills!!
It was 266 miles with two 110 mile trips to the lake and the rest in city driving to work. Speed was kept to 60 and under for most of the long trips.
Typically, I've gotten anywhere from 14.5 to 16.5 on the trips to the lake and about 12-13.5 in city driving. Winter drags it down to 9-11 city.
I get about 6-8 towing a 7000 lb backhoe/trailer combo.
