I have a brake leak (guessing wheel cyl.) I've been told that on my 74 f100 4x4, my hubs come off with the drums as one piece. I got to disecting the hubs yesterday and ran into a problem. I've taken out the clutch in it, and just took the nut off the spline (the round nut with the four indentions). now I'm looking in and seeing a round piece on the spline with say 20 tiny holes on its face. i cant explain it well, but i need to know if this is the bearing or another nut. i tried pulling off the drum as is and it wont budge. im sure that someone knows what theyre doing better than i do. thanks.
It's a lock washer of sorts - it keeps the nut underneath it from turning. It's got a tab on the inside circumference that keeps it from spinning and one of those holes aligns with a pin on the bearing nut.
You should be able pull it straight out off the spindle (may have use a dental pick or similar tool if it been awhile since its been serviced). There will then be another nut under with the four indentations which can be removed with the hub socket you removed the first one with.
