Transmission noise?
I've got a strange noise coming from the transmission, flywheel or oil pan area. It is only there in park or nuetral. It sounds like bolts or nuts being thrown around in a closed can with liquid or a chain hitting metal. Something strange happened yesterday I was on the highway and happened to look in my sideveiw mirror I saw what looked like smoke or dust coming from the rear this is the only time I've seen this I do have (I Think) a rear seal leaking for a long time and it tends to get oil on everything on the passenger side underneath. Today I changed oil and filter and cleaned my K&N air filter. I started it up and noticed the noise, I also noticed a lot of black oil on my exhaust tip it has not been on there that long but this is the first time it had oil on it. Any ideas?

So far I read three things. Noise in the scatter shield would most likely be from peices of starter, fly wheel or debris from mudding or other. Pull stone shield if it has one and take a look. Rear oil seal leak would show as oily underside, the more-longer the leak the more oily it will be. Needs a new oil seal. Oil ON the exhuast tip could be from leaky seal, but would be one whale of a leak. Oil IN the exhuast tip means you are blowing oil out the exhuast and most likely could be from rings being bad or might be ATF from leaking modulator, don't recall that an E4OD has one or not.

The oil on the tip is on the outside right behind the rear wheel. Actually I have oil and/or dirt on new shock, new wheel but this is the first time I saw it on the tip. Do you mean the flywheel cover? It does not have a modulator.
