Question Has any body had problems with Hypertech?

I had a power programmer3 and when i had the tuning installed i would get pinging at half to full throttle when i was driving, i could not get the eng to ping when i reved it in neutral though. I called Hypertech and they said that my eng was getting to much air. They said that the tuning program was not set up to compensate for my Volant cold air intake. Does any body have an idea if the new Dialbo Preditor would do the same thing or should i just get a dyno tune?

You can adj the predator for more fuel or less timing to suit your needs....Depending on mods and fuel quality.

The manual also tells you how to do the above. It sounds like your Volant has a bend in its intake track that's causing the MAF sensor to read incorrectly. While the Predator can be adjusted you really ought to take care of the problem with the Volant.

Ok! I understand that naturally the intake tube that runs from the throttle body to the air filter box has a 90 degree bend but i didnt think that would cause any problems. The factory intake track has the same thing just smaller diameter. Are u suggesting that Volant screwwed up their design? and that would cause the problem.

by the way my truck is a '99 F-150 5.4L supercab 4X4

1999 F-150... haven't heard of problems with the Volant on them, just with the 2004 F-150. Try cleaning the MAF sensor.

OK are you talking about the Mass Airflow sensor that is right behind the filter or the little match tip looking sensor between the mass airflow sensor and throttle body? Also where would i find directions on how to clean it?

Well i would do that but! my truck does not get good enough gas milage, it would just be a wast of money to fill up with premium gas. It costs me $35 a fill up anyways with regular and that is almost to much to pay every week!. Thanks for the input though

Clean the MAF with contact cleaner, oil on it from your air cleaner?

You're supposed to run premium with it. Ping is caused by not using high enough octane... it can eventually pit the pistons.

Just to let you guys know i dont have pinging anymore. Just when i had the power programmer3 installed, i just sent it back to get a refund, i don't want to pay extra money for premium gas and i had no other use than to try to get some extra performance from 87 octane. I think i will just save up the money and get the Predator programmer or just wait and get a ford Lightning, maybe even the new Mustang.

With any programmer you purchase you will get no gain of anything running 87 octane. If you are not going to buy premium gas (which would only add $5 per fill up) you should not waste your time or money with the programmer. Find another cool mod.

Now that i think about it i should have tried the 97 octane setting on the powerprogrammer3 just to see if it would have pinged at all. But i was a little disapointed with the way the transmision acted when i firmed up the shifts. The diablo Predator has a ajustable firmness setting instead of a fixed one on the hypertech. I will most likly try the predator out and see if i can get it to do what i want it to do without the pinging and the extremly hard shifting that the power programmer caused. Every body that has submittted some thing has been a great help! thanks
