So I closed the bed of my 4 day old FX4 today and the back windshield shattered. Not sure really what happened. Couldn't get in contact with my dealership (which I'm a little upset about....I should never be put on hold for 30 minutes), but hopefully they will replace it. I have this feeling in my gut though that they are going to claim that it's my fault..either way..here is my question.
If I need to get it replaced through my insurance, how do I make sure that it is the OEM glass (same quality, tint, ect)? Has anyone else had there back window break?
jmaas...been tracking this forum since Jan, and I've never seen a similar situation. Maybe you could do a search, but the only thing related to rear windows that I can recall are squeaks and leaks.
Do you have a full-size window, or the slider (manual or powered). Either way, it shouldn't have shattered unless something really bizarre happened!
New truck?? No problems will or should be expected with warranty fixing(unless body damage near backlight glass area or gunshot hole in interior) Seen Explorer, Tauris-Sable, F-150s,etc come in my dealership in the last 27 years with blown out windshields, side and rear windows and backlight glass - if still in warranty covered - no problem.Side glass in my 6 mo. old F150 exploded when closing door-covered repair!! As fast as they are being built its a wonder we don't have more warranty repairs as we do!!!FORD #1 BUILT TRUCKS (Yah all I own is Fords-31 Tudor chopped streetrod,93EB Bronco,95 EB Bronco, 96 Probe 98 GT, 99 Sable, 2000 GT conv, 03 Escape XLT- and I work in the service dept. of the same Ford dealership since 1977!!)
If for some reason they don't take care of it go to a local auto glass store and ask if they have a blim for your year of truck. A blim is a windshield or rear glass that has a factory defect in it. A defect that you will probably never see. Could be the tint was too light or dark. Had to replace a windshield in my 96 Ranger 4x4 and I think the total was about $150. Beats the cost of a new one.
Come on boomer08- 4 days he had this truck-Brand new truck-Blemished windshield? If Ford doe'nt warranty this(no damage present-dents, bullet holes) LET ME KNOW!!!!!
I didn't say they wouldn't warranty it. They should but I have seen dealers not warranty things they should have. Just in case they don't that is an option he has.
I'm taking the truck in anyways to get the interior leathered up ( I needed the bench but wanted leather, which isn't an option, so I got a pretty sweet deal on a custom leather job, black seats with dark blue center stripes like the outside of my truck), anyways hopefully they will take care of me at that point. Other wise my insurance will take care of it.
FYI - A glass guy told me that it actually costs less for them to replace the back window with the sliding version (both OEM ford glass)...doesn't ford charge MORE for the sliding rear window????
