I have a 1978 Camper Special. My grandfather bought it new and passed it on to me about ten years ago. He had installed an aftermarket cruise control on it and now the vacuum servo is bad because the rubber seal is cracked. There is no identification on the unit so I can't look up the company to see about a replacement part. Everything else works fine so I don't want to replace the whole unit. Does anyone know where I can find generic aftermarket servo without buying an entire unit?
Without knowing the brand, I'm not sure the wiring would cross over. I'm not aware of any generic servos. I would probably just buy a whole new system.
There is no wiring on the unit. It just has a vacuum connection in the back and a spring inside that pushes against a rubber cover that has the chain that hooks up to the throttle linkage. I thought that this device was the servo.
Yes, that is the servo. But there has to be something that modulates the vacuum. I thought on my Ford factory servo there were some wires from the brain box that connected to the servo.
Thinking about it you might check in the junkyards for a gm with cruise. I seem to remember that they were like this. Even if you can't get a good used one, you could get a new one for the make/model you found a matching unit on.
Jc whitney has complete systems, I bought one from them it is made by audiovox its all electronic, it works great on my 77 4by4. It was only 115 dollars.
the audiovox unit is great if u want to get somthing new. its fairly easy to instal just make sure u get the magnetic sensor and pickup done with the right clearance (trust me on that one). other wise for 110 its a really good deal.
