5.4 idling problem
My buddy & I are trying to diagnose his '03 F-250 5.4L's idling problem. Upon starting the truck it hunts for idle....400-1500 rpms, and sometimes it will just die or won’t start at all. Any help would be appreciated.

Idle Air Control (IAC) for short .Its the most common problem with 5.4/6.8 idling complaints .Its the silver looking thing mounted to the throttle body.
Its either dirty/plugged up or its going bad

I've got a 99 F250 PSD . Had the trouble or service engine light come on. the DP tubes checked clear of carbon debris , so did the E.G.R valve. If I rap on the silver box that Rich described , and cleared the trouble code , the problem goes away .
