I just ordered a 05' F-250 PSD, 6 Speed Manual, SRW Shortbed, 4x2, SC, with the new TowCommand System. Eventually I would like to purchase a 5th Wheel Travel Trailer. With that being said has anyone had any serious problems towing with a shortbed and any recommendations when looking for a 5th Wheel, which will be towed with this vehicle.
I had a boss that was looking for an F250 short bed for 5th wheel towing. He was going to purcase a sliding hitch so that when he got to campgrounds or into tight spaces, he could manuever without hitting the back of the cab. He eventually got a long bed that someone had ordered, then passed on. Got a price he could not pass up.
I do not know what brand of slider he was looking at.
I pulled a 33' Phoenix 5th Wheel with my '01 F250 Crew Cab w/short bed (2wd) w/o "slider" & "dimpled" the back of my cab on both sides while backing into spaces & pulling out of fuel stops @ tight angels. I would definately support the idea of a "slider". I have friends who have used them and none have gotten into their cabs with the 5th wheel! http://www.msnusers.com/retired2001s...hoto&PhotoID=4

I currently use the Reese 16K slider and I love it. Spend the money and get the 16K it has the side to side pivot, over the 15K slider and is only about 40.00 more. Great set up.
Valley Husky Makes A Great Slider Hitch. 16k Rating, And Valley Has The Best Truck Bracket Kits For The Money. Reese Does Make A Good Product But I Have Installed May Of Both And Always Seem To Go Back To The Valley. Valley 16k Slider Offers 9" Movement, Which Is Huge When You Are In A Tight Place. Also Look At The Super Glide If You Are Going To Be Towing Alote, Dang Expensive But Woth It.

I have the same hitch and haven't had any problems yet. Sometimes it is a bit hard to get it to slide, so I keep it well lubricated and everything works fine now. The side to side pivot is a must in my opinion, I take my 5th wheel into some pretty hairy spots off road and can't imagine not having the pivot hitch.
