Some ********* broke the glass out on both of my mirrors (Dual arm, telescoping, with power). Is there a way to replace only the glass? Is there a company that will put new glass on it? If Ford is my only option, how do I get the plastic mirror base off of the actual mirror housing? H E L P?
I havent actually replaced one of these mirrors but you can get replacement mirrors from a auto glass company made by Burco. Usually they will sell them installed for about $25 each. They come pre-cut and fit perfect, so if they say they will cut you one then they probably wont fit as good.
if the are heated you might have problems getting glass. to remove to whole mirror assembly you remove the inner door panel and there should be 4 nuts to remove for the mirror. i dont think you can remove the plastic base from the mirror.
I am sure that any glass company that replaces windshied would do the mirrors.
also they make aftermarket mirrors that have turn signals in the glass. That is what I have made by mito corp. real nice. You can change the mirror glass yourself from the front. It is not the easiest thing to do but can be done.
You need a pry bar then pull the glass towards the truck. Look behind the mirror now and you will see a plastic rod that connects to the back of the mirror glass. Insert the pry bar behind this peice of plastic and pop it free. It has a ball and the mirror has a socket. You don't need to worry since the glass is already broken. When you get it apart you will see how it goes back together. you have to transfer the plastic rods from the old mirror to the new one. The power mirror motor rods you have to place in the motor sockets and place the nub in a certain direction can't remember exactly which way one is one way and the other one is a different direction. You can tell buy looking at the replacement mirror. It does not go real easy from here. I had problems getting the motor rods to pop into the mirror. Just make sure to allow yourself time to get it done.
