I need to replace the cast steel piece that connects the ignition lock to the actuator rod. How do I get the knuckle in the steering column apart to put the cast steel piece in? It has two dowel like things with threads inside them. If pics are needed let me know.
Thanks
well not really sure myself but to give you an idea i just replaced my whole column, i had to due to the fact that my pins were falling out and allowing the coulmn to drop while driving. not an easy thing to drive with. i could tap the pins back in with a hammer, so i ammgine they could be tapped out if you can get to them from the inside. hop ethat helps
chris
my truck does this every winter fo some odd reason, i got tired of fixing it and i just hook up a toggle switch off the cylinoid, if ya carry a extra one it works out fine, then during the summer i fixed it, if its the part im thinking of, you should be abble to find a bolt that fits it, skrew it in and pull out the dowel type things
been through this recently myself--alstar30 is correct--find the right size bolt to screw in and pull the pins out. That being said--its still a buger.
Along these lines, anybody know where I can get the plastic round part that goes around the steering shaft?--its the part that has the pins that turns the blinkers off. I seemed to have broken mine on my journey to the sorry little cast piece.
I used I believe a #8 or #10 bolt. I screwed it in, and used the claw of a hammer to pull it out, like a nail. BE CAREFUL NOT OF BREAK OFF THE bolt in the pin. I did this and had to go to a junkyard to get one. The cast iron piece broke becuase you were not pushing in the keylock button before you turned the key to take it out of the ignition. This button is easy to remove, and since I removed mine, I haven't had any problems with it.
Also, when you put the steering wheel back on, there is a little triangle on the column that matches the steerling wheel. Took me several times of driving it down the road with my steering wheel off before I figured out what the marks were for...
