I do not think vans and pickups have the same frame. You can do anything if you put your mind to it but it will be alot of work. Everything is in a different place and mounted differently.

I know they do not have the same frame, the van frame is much wider and has a much bigger/wider cross frame member then a 4x4. People put van bodies on 4x4 frames all the time, I do not see why your cab would present that much of a fabricating problem.

Maybe an E250/350 cutaway chassis/cab with a flatbed and a rear panel covering the opening of the cab? You can find cutaways on most box vans (moving vans and such) and class-c motorhomes too. Look in the big truck and equipment trader for lots of cutaway box vans for sale. I'm sure the walls and roof of the box could be eliminated, leaving a large flatbed for your use. I would think that would be easier than grafting a van cab onto a pickup frame...

FWIW: Most people convert the van itself to 4x4, I have actually seen only ONE Ford van that was put on a 4x4 chassis. So, to find someone that has actually done it will be much harder then finding someone that has used the running gear of a 4x4 to convert a van.

A few links for helpful information:

http://www.geocities.com/4xvan/vans4sale.html

In both links click on the "for sale" section.
