hi all, the other day i got my oil changed and after i got home i found a black funnel shaped pience under my truck, i have no idea where it came from. i got all the info off of it and i'm trying to find it but with no luck, it anyone has any ideas what this is let me know thx. it was covered in what looks like black oil. heres the info:
If it's a 3.0L, it's the funnel that belongs just below the oil filter above the starter. It's there to try to keep oil from running onto the starter when changing the oil filter.
A careless oil filter changer could brake the plastic tabs that hold on the funnel. Without the funnel, when you change filters, oil will drain onto your starter when you remove the old filter.
Looking at the engine from the drivers side, there will be two studs sticking out that the funnel pushes over so that it sits right under the filter and catches oil drips.
When I see things like oil filters located above starters it really makes me wonder what someone was thinking when they ok'd that design.
If I had a 3.0 I think I would buy a remote filter kit and mount that filter someplace sensible, like on the firewall where I can get to it without spilling oil on other things.
Oh come on guys, Engineers do it just to irritate the customers.
As an engineer (no I don't drive trains - it took my Grandmother 3 explanations before she understood what I was studying in college) I can tell you that putting all those pieces together can be a real pain. No I don't work on engines, but it doesn't take too many pieces of a product before things get real complicated fast - especially when you have to put them together.
Now for the guy who designed the fuel rail on the 3.0 liter - if there is justice in this world his soul was already dragged down to burn in Hell.
