Help ID this engine

All right, I should have checked it out more closely. Anyway, I just bought a 91 4x2 super cab with a '2.3'. I drove it, and looked it over a bit -- everything seemed fine. Went to pick up some tune up parts-- I figured I'd get ths stuff first, and then just replace whatever I needed. Book says - No distributor. Opened the hood -- there's an e coil and a distributor! Checked the VIN -- says its a 91 with a 3.0.
Not sure what I'm going to do, but I'd like to ID the engine . Looks like a 2.3 , Distributor and intake on the passenger side, plugs and exhaust on the drivers side. I think that the first FI engines (85) had intake and exhaust on the drivers side. I'm thinking maybe an 87 or 88 . Can anybody help me out here?

Thanks,
ford2go

Never mind, it is a 3 liter. The guy had told me a 2.3, and it ran OK and looked reasonably clean, so I didn't really check it out. Then I saw the distributor, and made a mental leap to an engine swap.

Color me embarassed!

Thanks,
