what did I do wrong
351w build for perf..hard to start..ran batt down quickly..took engine out of Mustang and put in fairlane..went with a Holly dp w/mech secs and also to a dp Mallory dist..car turns over very nicely now but where did all the tire burning power go to??..any suggestions/ideas??

Well if the engine has remained untouched, other than the installation of a new distributor and carb, first thought would be, is the initial timing set correctly, vacuum advance set correctly (if your using it). Is the carb adjusted properly? My guess would be something with your timing, but thats all it would be is a guess. Good luck

Yup...set it at tdc (with thumb)..and will replace all the plug wires next week..I think he had the timing set diferently than I do as he raced the car to begin with..I know it would run down a 1000 amp batt post haste with the old dist in and literally waste those 10" radials with a spooled rear end with the 3.80 posi rear..now it runs like a stock 289..it even starts up like a stock 289..somehow I managed to pull the "fangs" on this motor with something I did..and since really all that I did do besides bolt on a new carb ..coil and Dist..it must be that I changed the timing ..and there in l bet lies the problem
