starter problem help
i have a mazda navajo (same as an explorer) well today i think the starter is going came back from the store and parked it came back out and tryed starting nothing click click so i grabed a small hammer and lightly hit the starters mounts a couple of times and it started right up i have read that the cables could have corroisoin but when i tap it it will turn right over so i dont think it could be the cable at the battery but before it was doing this it would sometimes drop in cranking power right befoe the engine would take over it sounds like it has a flat spot in it please help i dont need to get steranded anywere it also did it at work and i stoped at the store and did it thier too so if an one knows what is going on please help and what the average cost for a new starter thanks

Sounds like the starter. My '92 did that, and I got away with tapping the starter using the jack handle for a short time. It's a gamble as to when the starter will actually and totally fail, but it will not be very long.
