My buddy and I are changing out a 4 cylinder engine on a '92 Chevy Corsica. This is our first FWD engine swap, any tips would be greatly appreciated. Due the transaxles still use a torque converter like regular auto transmissions. Should we be able to get the engine out without removing the transaxle? Space looks real tight like might have to lift everything straight up as a whole.
i have pulled several front wheel drive you can pull them up or down . but every on is diff some cant be pulled as a unit and some can . i would pull it as an assembly and take time to remeber where everthing went
It will come out the top just fine, unbolt the transaxle and convertor, and take the crank pulley off, it will clear to come out then, also the oil filter needs to come off, it will catch.Support the trans from underneath, no need to support it on top on this car, just take a floor jack under the right side on the oil pan GENTLY and it will be fine. On your corsica, it does not have a complete cradle, and the trans is bolted to the strut tower, so it will not be as easy as unbolting the cradle and lifting the body, and if you are like most of us, you do not have a lift yo do this with. I have done quite a few of them, and it will be just as easy if not easier to simply take it out the top. The lower bolt on the backside of the motor can be accessed with a few extensions and a swivel. Any questions about this, feel free to email me.
