300 blocks, and cranks

HD 300's were in Medium Duty trucks like the F600. the Fed-Ex trucks are light duty 1 ton E350s.
The HD sixes had forged cranks, different distributors (some with tach drives, some with prestolite governors), water pumps (bigger impellor) and exhaust valve rotators, blocks and heads were the same. they also had stopped being built long before the 80's when Fed Ex was using trucks based on E350s.

I work at DTW airport for Northwest Airlines. All of our ground equipment, Tugs and Belt loaders have the 300 in them. I have seen build dates as new as 2001 on these engines. They are basically a stock looking 300. Just like the one in my 1982 F100. Any chance that these 300 might be HD? Fred
FedEx Econolines were E250's. Some still in service. I saw a new one years ago while the tech was installing the radio. The one thing I remember on the window option sheet was "heavy duty starter".
E350 Fedex trucks are box vans and most I've seen are 460 powered. (and I've seen twisted driveshafts to prove it)
From the Haynes Manual:
"...heavy duty engines were not available in California.)"
"All six cylinder engines have a block made of special high grade cast iron. .......
light duty engines have a nodular iron crank...... .....heavy duty engine has a forged alloy steel crank..... The (HD)...have exhaust valve rotators, heavy duty pistons, special valves, and a larger radiator."

I did not thing that the block and the crank was a weak link in the 300 anyways. You only need a forged crank if your going to spin it fast anyway. For everyday driving the stock parts are more then fine IMO.
