I have a 94 f150 4x4 with a six cyl engine. The automatic transmission goes through spells of slipping out of gear for maybe 15-30 seconds at any speeds, and then is fine. I changed the filter, oil and added 2 quarts of Lucas transmission oil. When shifting, it is smooth, are these spells mean I need a new tranny? Truck has 150 thousand miles, tranny is a St Louis Amco put in at about mile 67 thousand.
I have a 95 F150 with AODE doing same thing. One shop said install new TPS but it did not help. The second shop I called recommended replacing the Manual Lever Position Sensor. I haven't done this yet but I will. These seem to be the two switches that make the transmission shift- or "hang between gears". Maybe this could work for you?
Thanks,
Actually I took the truck to a transmission shop and they replaced the selector switch. It is like I have a new transmission! It has been acting up for better than a year. I was so relieved especially at the price. $130. A good transmission shop can find out if yours is acting up.
I went to buy a Manual Lever Position Sensor only to find it was called a Transmission Range Selector. I installed one two days ago and I have been without recurrence so far- the transmission hasn't botched a shift yet. $130 with tax and my troubles are behind me? Guess I'll know soon enough.
