Is it possible (and reasonable ) to wire my lights so that they come on whenever the truck is running and shut off when the truck is turned off? I would really like to just leave the headlight switch 'on' and have the lights come on as mentioned.
Sounds like a simple issue of wiring the lights through the ignition system, but I'm not too sure if this is the right direction.
I would advise against it myself, but if you are sure you want to do it, make sure you use a relay to power the lights so you don't run all of that current straight through your headlight switch.
Try checking into a Carquest parts store. They sell a kit under their EC line part number DRL-1 that makes the headlights work like the newer rigs with daytime running lights. FWIW
